Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Abduct Chinese National And Nigerian In Kwara Attack.

Suspected kidnappers launched a deadly assault on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the tragic deaths of two policemen and the abduction of two individuals, including a Chinese national and a Nigerian, authorities have confirmed.

The violent incident occurred on Wednesday evening, 4 June 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., when armed gunmen stormed the mining site. According to a statement released by the Kwara State Police Command on Thursday, the attackers not only killed two mobile police officers but also made off with the rifles of the fallen escorts. The abducted victims have been identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a native of Kogi State.

The police spokesperson, Toun Adeyemi, detailed the harrowing event in the statement: “The Kwara State Police Command confirms a deadly attack and abduction incident that occurred on 4th June, 2025 at about 18:30hrs.” The force has launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the hostages, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports suggest the gunmen executed a swift and coordinated operation, overpowering the security detail at the site. The loss of the officers’ rifles has raised concerns about the potential for further armed criminal activity in the region. The incident has heightened fears among residents and workers in Kwara, a state that has seen sporadic kidnapping attempts in recent years.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to aid the ongoing efforts to apprehend the culprits. The Kwara State Police Command has vowed to work tirelessly to ensure justice for the slain officers and the safe return of the abducted individuals.

This tragic event underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom and attacks on security personnel remain a pressing concern. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
