Court Frees Ibom Air Passenger Following Case Withdrawal.
Justice has been served with the release of Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault, after a magistrate court in Ikeja, Lagos, discharged her on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. The decision came following an application by the prosecution to withdraw the case, marking a swift resolution to the incident that unfolded on an Ibom Air flight on August 10.
The case, which had drawn public attention, saw Emmanson arraigned on Monday and remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet her N500,000 bail conditions. However, at the resumed hearing, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments, leading to the withdrawal of charges. This move was reportedly influenced by intervention from the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who revealed that Ibom Air had agreed to drop its complaint against the passenger.
The discharge has brought relief to Emmanson and her supporters, with the court’s ruling highlighting a commitment to fairness and due process. The incident, which initially sparked debates about passenger conduct and airline policies, has now concluded amicably, allowing all parties to move forward. Local authorities and legal experts have praised the swift resolution, noting it reflects a balanced approach to managing such disputes within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
