Sule Lamido Accuses APC Of Betraying Nigerians With Failed Promises

Sule Lamido Accuses APC Of Betraying Nigerians With Failed Promises.

Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Sule Lamido, has delivered a scathing condemnation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the administrations of former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Tinubu of plunging Nigeria into deeper poverty and hardship. Speaking at an expanded PDP caucus meeting in Dutse, Lamido claimed the APC has consistently failed to deliver on its promises, leaving Nigerians grappling with economic collapse and widespread suffering.

Lamido, a seasoned politician with over four decades of experience, did not mince words as he addressed party members. He asserted that the APC’s governance has been marked by self-interest rather than service to the nation. “Since Buhari and now Tinubu, Nigerians are suffering. Poverty is everywhere, youths are jobless, and the economy is collapsing. They say they are fighting for Nigeria, but in reality, they only fight for themselves and their pockets,” he declared. His remarks underscore a deep frustration with the ruling party’s inability to address pressing national challenges.

Drawing on his political roots in the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) struggles of 1979, Lamido emphasised the importance of integrity and sacrifice in leadership. He urged PDP members to remain united and disciplined, positioning the party as a credible alternative to what he described as the APC’s misrule. “I believe in Jigawa, I believe in the PDP, and I believe we can reclaim our dignity. Let us not be deceived by empty promises,” he said, calling for a commitment to justice and fairness in politics.

Lamido’s critique comes amid growing discontent with the APC’s handling of Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. He highlighted the soaring cost of living and lack of opportunities for young people, describing the situation as a betrayal of the hopes Nigerians placed in the APC when it rose to power in 2015. His comments echo similar sentiments from other opposition figures, who have increasingly called for a change in leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former governor’s remarks have sparked renewed debate about the APC’s track record and its ability to address Nigeria’s mounting crises. While the APC has defended its policies, citing reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification as necessary for long-term economic stability, critics like Lamido argue that these measures have only deepened the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. As the PDP seeks to capitalise on public dissatisfaction, Lamido’s outspoken criticism signals a broader push to challenge the ruling party’s dominance.

With Nigeria facing a critical juncture, Lamido’s call for unity and principled leadership within the PDP could set the stage for a fierce political battle in the coming years. His warning that politics should not descend into “insults or selfish ambition” serves as a reminder of the stakes involved as the nation grapples with its future direction.
