Adeleke Threatens To Dethrone Rulers Of Clashing Communities In Osun

Adeleke Threatens To Dethrone Rulers Of Clashing Communities In Osun.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers of the warring Ifon, Erin Osun, and Ilobu communities, insisting that they must sustain the current peace in their domains or risk being dethroned.

Governor Adeleke made this declaration on Monday in a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr Olawale Rasheed, amid rising concerns over potential renewed violence in the conflict-prone areas.

The affected communities have been locked in longstanding boundary disputes, leading to violent clashes that have resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties worth billions of naira.

Adeleke’s warning follows reports of alleged plans by faceless groups to instigate another round of violence in the region. He assured residents that security agencies have intensified surveillance to prevent any fresh attacks.

‘Enough is Enough’ – Governor Adeleke

“In the midst of Sallah celebrations, I got reports of some people planning another round of conflict around Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun towns. The security agencies have tightened surveillance to ensure no attacks take place,” Adeleke stated.

He also revealed that security operatives were actively interrogating key figures involved in the conflict.

“I will remind top leaders of the towns that the peace undertaking they signed is not a joke. They will be held accountable. There will be accountability before the law,” he warned.

The governor further stressed that while the recent relaxation of the curfew in the affected areas was a humanitarian gesture, any attempt to exploit this for renewed violence would lead to the full reinstatement of the 24-hour curfew.

Traditional Rulers Face Dethronement Over Violence

Adeleke issued a direct warning to the traditional rulers of the warring communities, stating that any monarch under whose reign violence resurfaces would be removed from office.

“Additionally, I will remove from office any traditional ruler where violence recurs. This card is on the table. Royal fathers of each town must call their subjects to order. I will wield the big stick. Enough is enough,” he declared.

The governor’s firm stance highlights the state government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the affected communities, reinforcing the need for traditional rulers to take responsibility for maintaining stability in their domains.
