AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Key Results Across the Continent

Govima Sports Report.

The latest round of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers saw various thrilling encounters unfold across the African continent on Monday, 9th September. With top teams fighting for their spot in the prestigious tournament, several key matches provided drama and excitement.

Senegal Edges Past Burundi

Senegal, led by a strong defensive performance, secured a 1-0 victory over Burundi. The result highlights Senegal’s resilience as they continue to push towards qualification. Despite Burundi’s determination, they were unable to break through the Senegalese defence, leaving them disappointed on home soil.

Togo and Equatorial Guinea Share Spoils

In one of the day’s most dramatic encounters, Equatorial Guinea and Togo played out an intense 2-2 draw. Both teams showcased their attacking prowess, but neither could clinch all three points. The result leaves both nations still hopeful as the qualification race continues.

Madagascar and Comoros Play Out a Draw

Madagascar and Comoros played to a 1-1 draw in a tightly contested match. Both sides fought hard, with neither able to establish clear dominance. The result will keep both teams in the hunt for qualification but leaves work to be done in their remaining fixtures.

Ghana Held by Niger

Ghana, one of the continent’s powerhouses, was surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by Niger. This result will come as a disappointment for the Black Stars, who were favourites to win the match. Niger, however, put up a spirited fight, managing to earn a valuable point in their campaign. The Black Stars remain winless after 2 matches having lost to Angola at home in Matchday 1.

Uganda Defeats Congo in Crucial Victory

Uganda earned a crucial 2-0 victory over Congo, bolstering their hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025. The Cranes put in a commanding performance, controlling the game from start to finish. This win moves Uganda closer to securing their place in the tournament.

Angola Triumphs Over Sudan

In another significant match, Angola defeated Sudan 2-1. The victory will be a confidence boost for the Angolans as they continue to navigate the qualifiers in style. Sudan put up a valiant fight but ultimately could not prevent Angola from claiming the three points. Angola comfortably sits on top of their group having defeated Ghana in Matchday 1, ensuring they acquire maximum 6 point in 2 matches.

D.R. Congo Wins Against Ethiopia

D.R. Congo solidified their position in the qualifiers with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ethiopia. The Congolese side dominated much of the match, making sure of their win with a solid performance that leaves them well-placed for qualification.

Morocco Clinches Victory Over Lesotho

Morocco continued their impressive run with a straightforward 1-0 win against Lesotho. The Atlas Lions have been in fine form for a while and this victory keeps them on course for AFCON 2025 which will be hosted by them.

The qualifiers continue to unfold, with teams from across Africa battling for a spot in the continental showpiece event. With more thrilling games ahead, the excitement surrounding AFCON 2025 is already gathering momentum.
