Ankara is actually the most used African fabric hence, why it is the most popular fabric in Africa.

It might have taken a while for Africans most especially the people of West Africa to start adorning clothes.

History books says the first sighting of clothes in Africa dates back to 2000 B.C.E but as clothes becomes part of the people, the most popular one used is Ankara fabric.

Although it is said to have its origin in Indonesia where the locals made batik. Slaves and mercenaries recruited from West Africa to be part of the Indonesian army were said to take a liking to batik and returned to West Africa with the cloth.





Ankara is now a popular fabric in West African countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and so on.

This fabric is now seen on runways all over the world and as a day-t0-day clothing and its accessories by the people. Ankara is widely sold in the West African markets.

It comes with different patterns and colors. It also has different texture and grade which makes it possible to be adorned different caliber of people and for different purpose.

It is a popular fabric in almost every home and celebrities have helped to popularize this fabric by adorning it in style. Men and women all over West Africa today wear Ankara casually. They are worn at weddings 1as aoebi to identify with the celebrants as well as birthdays and even at funerals to celebrate the departed.

This beautiful fabric has been used to make a handful of clothing and accessories for both men and women, young and old. Men and women adorn Ankara in style. The list of ways it can be worn include shirt and trouser, agbada, dansiki, shirt and short (knickers, bum shorts, etc.), suits and jackets, bomber jackets, palazzo, skirt and blouse, blouse and wrapper among several other styles.

Ankara can also be used for making clothing accessories such as hats, shoes, belts, bags, purses, book cover, and several other creative styles. It’s different patterns, colors, and textures at which it comes makes it a good option for people in the fashion industry.
