APC Slams Door On Enugu Governor’s Defection Bid

APC Slams Door On Enugu Governor’s Defection Bid.

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it will not accept Governor Peter Mbah if he decides to join the party. This decision was made during an expanded stakeholders meeting held at the party secretariat in Enugu, where 150 notable figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) officially defected to the APC.

APC State Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, stated that Governor Mbah’s administration has failed to tackle security challenges in Enugu State, particularly in the Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo local government areas. The party accused the governor’s administration of ignoring violence and attempting to hide the news from the public, failing in its duty to protect lives and properties.

The APC’s decision comes as a blow to Governor Mbah’s potential defection plans. Despite this, the party welcomed the new members warmly, promising them equal treatment. Party leaders expressed delight at the growing number of defectors, seeing it as a sign of the APC’s increasing strength in the state.

Some of the notable defectors include Barrister Peter Okonkwo, a former PDP House of Assembly aspirant, who vowed to dismantle PDP structures in the Nsukka zone. Others, such as Hon Nonso Ochi, Hon Onyeka Chukwuedo, Chief John Edeh, Chief Tony Chigbo, and Engr Emeka Abba, also joined the APC, bringing their experience and influence to the party.

In a separate development, the party approved the suspension of Senator Chukwuka Utazi over alleged anti-party activities. The State Executive Committee has been tasked with officially confirming the suspension.
