APC’s Joe Igbokwe Urges Sowore To Apologise Over ‘Criminal’ Remark Against President Tinubu

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a strong rebuke to former AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, over his recent comments about President Bola Tinubu.

Sowore had taken to social media to describe President Tinubu as “a criminal,” a remark that drew widespread criticism. In response, Igbokwe penned an opinion piece titled “My 10 Kobo Advice to Sowore,” in which he expressed disappointment and recounted his long-standing relationship with Sowore through a mutual friend named Peter Claver.

Igbokwe disclosed that he was taken aback by Sowore’s description of the President, calling it “shameful” and “scurrilous drivel.” He revealed that he had personally advised Sowore to withdraw the statement and offer a public apology, but noted that Sowore had yet to do so.

“I advised him to withdraw the shameful, scurrilous drivels and apologise to the President. Up till now, he has not found the need to apologise to the President and Nigerians who elected him as president,” Igbokwe stated.

In defence of President Tinubu, Igbokwe described him as “an international Chartered Accountant, international scholar,” a former senator, and a former governor of Lagos State—Nigeria’s economic nerve centre—for eight years, and now the President of the country.

He added that the least Sowore could do was to publicly retract his statement and apologise, not just to the President, but also to Nigerians. Igbokwe emphasized that he had reached out as a friend, urging Sowore to “withdraw these nonsensical effusions and openly apologise.”

The APC stalwart stressed that he wanted the world to know he had warned Sowore about the consequences of his comment.

This comes amid broader tensions between Sowore and the State Security Services (SSS), which recently asked social media platform X to take down one of Sowore’s posts about the President. Sowore’s legal team has condemned the move, viewing it as unconstitutional.
