The Nigerian Army has announced a massive redeployment exercise involving 56 Major Generals and 11 Brigadier Generals across various commands and formations in what it described as a major leadership restructuring aimed at strengthening operational efficiency.
The latest development follows recent adjustments within the military leadership approved by President Bola Tinubu.
According to an internal memo dated October 30, 2025, and signed by the Military Secretary, Major General E. L. Okoro, the affected officers are to assume their new postings by November 3, 2025. The circular emphasized that all concerned officers must resume duties at their designated formations on the effective date without delay.
The directive stated, “It is the responsibility of all formation and unit commanders whose officers are affected by this posting to implement accordingly. Officers must take over on the effective dates indicated herein. Commanders are to take immediate administrative action on any officer who fails to report on the effective date of posting.”
Among those retained in their current locations but with new roles are Major Generals P. A. O. Okoye, Y. Yahaya, I. Otu, and S. Nuhu. The redeployment also affects senior commanders overseeing key military operations, training schools, and administrative units across the country.
The Army said the reshuffle was part of efforts to realign the force’s structure and enhance its readiness to address emerging security challenges nationwide. It added that the move was designed to ensure the optimal use of available human resources within the service.
This latest exercise comes shortly after the appointment of new service chiefs by President Tinubu as part of a wider military reform intended to reposition Nigeria’s Armed Forces for greater effectiveness. The shake-up underscores the administration’s commitment to improving internal security coordination across the nation.
