Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers Called Up To England Squad As Injuries Lead To Key Replacements.
Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers has earned his first senior England call-up for the November Nations League fixtures following a wave of injuries that led to eight player withdrawals. Interim manager Lee Carsley added Rogers, alongside other fresh faces, to the squad as England prepares to face Greece on 14 November and the Republic of Ireland on 17 November.
Rogers’ promotion from the Under-21s comes on the back of an impressive start to his season, with three goals and two assists across 11 appearances for Villa under manager Unai Emery. He joins West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento, and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford in the squad.
A number of England’s initial selections, including Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, and Manchester City stars Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, were ruled out due to injuries. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale are also unavailable, with Ramsdale reportedly nursing a fractured finger and Alexander-Arnold forced off early in Liverpool’s recent match against Aston Villa.
Carsley’s squad selection marks his final duty as interim manager before Thomas Tuchel officially steps in for the role in January 2025.
