Atiku Criticises Tinubu’s Fuel Subsidy Approach Amidst Rising Hardship In Nigeria.
Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has attributed Nigeria’s current economic crisis to the mismanagement of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In a statement on Thursday, Atiku expressed concern over what he described as the government’s “haphazard approach” to handling the subsidy, leading to severe economic hardship for Nigerians.
Atiku’s comments follow the recent hike in the pump price of petrol by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The price of fuel has surged from ₦897 to ₦1,030 per litre in Abuja, and from ₦855 to ₦998 in Lagos, further compounding the financial strain on citizens.
In a post on his X account, Atiku decried Tinubu’s perceived indifference to the worsening situation, stating: “The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country.”
He warned that unless urgent steps are taken, inflation will continue to rise, eroding the material well-being of Nigerians. Atiku’s criticism highlights growing concerns over the government’s handling of economic policies amidst rising living costs and increasing public discontent.
Despite the mounting challenges, the government has yet to address the public’s concerns or provide clear solutions to ease the economic burden.
