According to the circular, the responsibility for adhering to this new policy falls upon the affected officers,…
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted the Reds are looking to win the Europa League, confessing they “did not deserve” a spot in this season’s Champions League. A bitterly disappointing 2022/23 campaign saw Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17, forcing Jurgen Klopp’s side to accept a place in the Europa League – a competition which brings famously gruelling travel schedules and an increased number of games. Their campaign kicks off against Austrian side LASK on Thursday, before which Van Dijk made it clear Liverpool are looking to go all the way. “We all…

Despite hammering Sao Tome and Principe 6-0, in their final 2023 AFCON qualifier, the result did not have any positive effect on the ranking. In Africa, the Eagles are currently sixth behind Morocco (1st), Senegal (2nd), Tunisia (3rd), Algeria (4th) and Egypt (5th). Following a 1-0 triumph over Ecuador and 3-0 away success against Bolivia in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Argentina tighten their grip at the summit of…

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana says he has “let the team down” and that they failed to get a result at Bayern Munich “because of me”. In an eventful game in Germany, Onana’s error gifted Bayern a crucial lead that they quickly doubled after United had started in disciplined fashion. A flurry of goals followed but United were always chasing and ultimately fell short, suffering a 4-3 loss. “This is the life of a goalkeeper,” Onana said in a post match interview. “It’s difficult. We started very good. After my mistake we lost control of the game. It’s a difficult situation…
Goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel gave Bayern a 4-3 win over Manchester United. United, for whom Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goal, looked sharp in attack, but poor defending and goalkeeping cost them once again. United started well and ought to have taken the lead early on, but Alphonso Davies made a fine tackle on Facundo Pellistri before Sven Ulreich saved Christian Eriksen’s subsequent shot. Then, on 28 minutes, Bayern took the lead, Sane playing into Kane, accepting a fine return, and slapping a tame effort over which Andre Onana somehow dived before, shortly…
Arsenal returned to the Champions League in style as they started their first campaign in six years with an impressive win over PSV Eindhoven at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners wrapped up victory in their opening Group B game with a scintillating first half display that saw them race into a 3-0 lead on a rain-soaked night in north London. Bukayo Saka opened the scoring after eight minutes, pouncing on a rebound when PSV keeper Walter Benitez could only push Martin Odegaard’s into the England winger’s path. Saka was involved again when Arsenal doubled their advantage 12 minutes later, laying the…
Lautaro Martinez broke Real Sociedad’s hearts, as his last-gasp strike earned Inter Milan a 1-1 draw in their opening UEFA Champions League group game. The Nerazzurri failed to land a single shot on target until grabbing their equaliser in the 87th minute, with a lacklustre display at both ends meaning they were lucky to escape with a point. The hosts could barely have dreamed of a better start, rattling the post through Ander Barrenetxea on three minutes, only to take the lead 60 seconds later when Brais Mendez capitalised on an error by Alessandro Bastoni. The game soon settled down…
Jude Bellingham scored an injury-time tap-in as Real Madrid left it late to beat Champions League debutants Union Berlin at the Santiago Bernabeu. Bellingham’s strike was his sixth goal in six matches for Madrid since joining Los Blancos this summer. Real Madrid were deserved winners, having twice hit the post in the second half, although Union looked set for a fairytale draw at the home of the record 14-time winners. The hosts, semi-finalists in last season’s competition, started brightly as Joselu headed Bellingham’s teasing cross over the bar. But Ancelotti’s side failed to kick on in the first period, although…
