The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended their planned nationwide strike over the scarcity of naira notes. The labour union announced the development at the end of its national executive council meeting on Tuesday. The NLC had earlier disclosed that it would begin an indefinite industrial strike from Wednesday, March 29, 2023, adding that it would picket branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) across the country. Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, says the federal government has started a conciliatory move with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the union’s threat to embark on an industrial strike. The NLC had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to end the petrol and cash scarcity being experienced in the country. Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor of Imo State, has announced his withdrawal from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship Primaries. The elections petition tribunal sitting in Ogun State has granted the request of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to inspect the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and other sensitive materials used for 2023 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the state.
