Paul Biya, the long-serving president of Cameroon, has reportedly passed away at the age of 91. According to Information gathered by Govima News, he reportedly died at a military hospital in Paris France.
The Cameroonian authorities though are yet to confirm to the media the news, however It will be the end of an era for the Central African nation, where he’s been ruling for 42 years. His death would signal the end of a chapter of one of the longest presidencies in Africa.
Biya first ascended to power in November 1982, following the resignation of his predecessor, Ahmadou Ahidjo. Initially a supporter of a one-party system, he introduced political reforms under intense pressure in the 1990s, allowing multiparty elections. Despite repeated allegations of electoral fraud, he remained in office, securing re-election several times with significant margins.
