Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the reinstatement of 103 teachers who were previously dismissed due to administrative errors identified during the state’s civil service verification exercise.

The affected teachers were among 780 civil servants whose salaries were suspended following the verification process conducted in January 2025. The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, announced the development, stating that the reinstated teachers had been cleared after undergoing a thorough verification process. The verification revealed that their removal from the payroll resulted from administrative oversights rather than any misconduct.

As part of the reinstatement, Governor Lawal has also approved the payment of the teachers’ salary arrears from January to July 2025. This decision underscores the governor’s commitment to rectifying the errors and ensuring that the affected teachers receive their due entitlements. The verification exercise, which led to the suspension of salaries for several civil servants, aimed to sanitize the state’s workforce by identifying cases of underage employment, absenteeism, and other irregularities. While many were found to have been improperly included in the payroll, the 103 reinstated teachers were confirmed to be legitimate employees.

The reinstatement has been met with commendation from various quarters. The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) praised Governor Lawal for his decision, viewing it as a demonstration of his resolve to restore integrity, discipline, and punctuality in the state’s workforce. The party emphasized that the governor’s ongoing reforms aim to improve standards and motivation among teachers, thereby enhancing the quality of education in the state.

In his announcement, Commissioner Madawaki urged the reinstated teachers to demonstrate greater commitment to their duties. He emphasized that the government would not condone any act that could undermine the progress of the education sector in Zamfara State. The governor’s directive was not only to reinstate the affected teachers but also to ensure the payment of their outstanding salary arrears, reflecting his people-oriented leadership and genuine concern for justice and accountability in governance.

The reinstatement of the 103 teachers is part of Governor Lawal’s broader efforts to reform and reposition the education sector in Zamfara State. By addressing administrative errors and ensuring that deserving teachers are properly compensated, the governor aims to foster a more efficient and effective educational system. This move is expected to boost the morale of teachers and enhance the quality of education provided to students across the state.

As the reinstated teachers resume their duties, the Zamfara State government anticipates that their renewed commitment will contribute positively to the educational development of the state. The government’s actions reflect a dedication to fairness and accountability, ensuring that the education sector is staffed by qualified and dedicated professionals. The successful resolution of this issue serves as a model for addressing similar challenges in other sectors of the state’s civil service.
