Bruno Fernandes Signs New Contract with Manchester United Until 2027.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has officially signed a new contract, extending his stay at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an option to extend for a further year. The 29-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been an influential figure since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £47 million.

Over the course of his 234 appearances for the club, Fernandes has netted 79 goals and provided 67 assists, cementing his status as one of the Premier League’s top performers. His previous contract, signed in 2022, was set to expire in 2026, but this new deal ensures he will continue to be a key part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for the foreseeable future.

“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United,” Fernandes said upon signing the contract. “I can see how positive the future is going to be, and I am relishing leading this team forward. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club.”

Fernandes took over as club captain from Harry Maguire in July 2023, and despite facing some criticism from former United captains like Gary Neville and Roy Keane, he has maintained the trust of manager Erik ten Hag.

The midfielder expressed his optimism for the future, stating, “I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t think my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.” He fondly recalled special moments, including hearing his name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out on European nights at Old Trafford, and lifting trophies at Wembley.

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth praised Fernandes as a “brilliant leader” who plays a pivotal role in the club’s ambitions. “Bruno has performed at such a high level with remarkable consistency since he arrived at Manchester United,” Ashworth remarked. “Bruno’s dedication to the club epitomises what it takes to be a United player. He remains pivotal to everything that we want to achieve here, and we look forward to working together to deliver the success that this club demands.”

Fernandes’ commitment to the club signals his belief in United’s future, and the club’s determination to fight for major trophies in the years ahead.
