This season’s campaign saw Rulani Mokwena’s side exit the tournament with a 2-0 aggregate defeat against ES Tunis, mirroring last season’s semi-final outcome where Sundowns were eliminated on the away goals rule after a 2-2 draw with Wydad Casablanca.
The decisive goal in the second-leg came from Raed Bouchniba in the 57th minute, causing disappointment for Masandawana fans who were hoping for a turnaround after Sundowns’ 1-0 loss in the first-leg against Esperance Tunis away from home.
