Cameroon: Eto’o Apologizes to Brys, Reinstates Belgian as Indomitable Lions Coach

Resolution At Last Between FECAFOOT and Cameroon’s Sports Ministry, As Samuel Eto’o Apologizes to Brys, Reinstates Belgian as Indomitable Lions Coach.

In a surprising turn of events, Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), issued a public apology to Belgian football manager Marc Brys and reinstated him as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions. This announcement comes just days after a heated altercation led to Brys’ removal from the position. (As earlier reported by afrosports)

During a press conference on Thursday, Eto’o expressed regret over the confrontation with Brys, acknowledging the emotional nature of their initial meeting. “I apologize because during our first unfortunate meeting, there was a lot of emotion,” Eto’o stated. He emphasized the importance of working together for the benefit of the Cameroonian people, adding, “But the Cameroonian people are more important than us, and it is for them that we must work.”

Brys was appointed as the national men’s team coach by Cameroon sports minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi in April, a move that initially surprised the football federation. However, following an emergency general meeting on Tuesday, Brys was sacked due to “disrespectful comments” and “an outright refusal to collaborate.” Martin Mpile Ndtoungou was named interim coach and was tasked with preparing the squad for the upcoming African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a dramatic reversal, Brys has now been reinstated and will lead the team in their crucial matches against Cape Verde and Angola on June 8 and 11, respectively. Eto’o assured Brys of his full support, acknowledging the challenges ahead. “Your mission is not an easy one, despite your qualities and experience, but you should know that you will have our support,” the former international star added.

The Indomitable Lions currently top Group D with four points from two games. They will host the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on June 8 before traveling to Talatona to face the Palancas Negras of Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro three days later.

This resolution signals a commitment to unity and progress within Cameroon’s football administration, with Eto’o and Brys now working together to secure the nation’s footballing ambitions on the international stage.
