Chidi Blyden has assumed the role of CEO at the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), following her tenure at the United States Department of Defense, where she held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs.
In her previous role, she served as the principal advisor on international security strategy and policy matters throughout the African continent.
The MCC, an independent U.S. government agency dedicated to reducing global poverty through economic growth, has the majority of its programs in Africa. Blyden’s wealth of expertise and extensive experience in the region is expected to greatly benefit the agency as it seeks to further its goals.
Blyden has enjoyed a distinguished career that spans government, academia, and the non-profit sector. Her work has concentrated on understanding the impact of culture in shaping policy and community-centered approaches to security and stability, with a specific emphasis on the crucial roles of women and youth.
She has been honored with multiple awards for her exceptional public service, including the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service.

MCC, established in 2004, provides time-limited grants and assistance to countries that meet stringent standards for good governance, anti-corruption efforts, and the protection of democratic rights.
