The President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Samuel Agbeluyi, has articulated optimism regarding Nigeria’s potential to cultivate a robust cadre of tax professionals in the coming years.

Speaking at the All Secondary Schools Tax event in Benin, Edo State, Agbeluyi emphasized the significance of taxation and the vast opportunities it presents for students aspiring to pursue careers in this field.

Agbeluyi highlighted the pivotal role of taxation, asserting that it not only offers avenues for employment but also fosters expertise that can contribute significantly to the nation’s economic landscape. He underscored that proficient tax professionals could operate in various capacities, including practice, government agencies, or as authorities in tax-related studies.

Recent reports reiterated CITN’s stance on the necessity of a robust tax system to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). Abiodun Oke, Chairman of Ikeja District Society of CITN, emphasized the pivotal role of taxation in creating an environment conducive to attracting FDI, essential for the country’s economic growth.

The event also witnessed the recognition of outstanding students in the field of taxation. Izoduwa Richking emerged as the winner, followed by Igbinomwanhia Bridget and Uwoghiren Blessed, securing significant cash prizes. Agbeluyi lauded the initiative, affirming that such platforms nurture young talents who could potentially revolutionize Nigeria’s taxation landscape.

Chairman of the Students Affairs and Tertiary Institution Relations Committee, Dr. Abiola Adimula, emphasized the importance of enlightening students about the role of taxation in economic development. Adimula highlighted CITN’s efforts in refining tax policies for the benefit of both the government and taxpayers, fostering an environment conducive to interactive learning and contribution to national economic growth.
