In a recent operational visit to the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA) Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) Barracks in Ohafia, Abia State, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja emphasized the crucial need for collaborative efforts among key stakeholders in South-East Nigeria to put an end to the unauthorized sit-at-home order.

The COAS stressed the importance of involving all relevant parties in the region to restore normalcy and revive the socio-economic activities for which the area is known.

During his visit, Lieutenant General Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the Abia State Government for the substantial support received by the Nigerian Army in the state. He assured that, under his leadership, the Nigerian Army would continue to assist the state government and the people of Abia in addressing security challenges.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army, along with sister services and other security agencies, in addressing security threats. He acknowledged the positive impact on reducing insurgency in both the state and the entire South-Eastern region.

Governor Otti particularly lauded the introduction of Operation CRUSH in the state, noting the relative calmness in identified flashpoints.

During his visit to the Headquarters of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, COAS Lieutenant General Lagbaja urged the troops to ensure peace is restored in troubled parts of the region.

He emphasized the significance of rebuilding public confidence, allowing citizens to engage in their normal activities without fear. The COAS pledged that the ongoing infrastructural development within Nigerian Army formations would extend to GEJ Barracks.

Lieutenant General Lagbaja called on the troops to remain steadfast in their operational duties, exhibiting loyalty to the President, Commander-in-Chief, and adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of following rules of engagement, respecting the fundamental human rights of citizens, and maintaining professionalism in line with global best practices.

The COAS hinted at the substantial support from the Federal Government and reassured troops that their welfare would be a top priority under his leadership.
