The dissolved executive council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has refuted allegations of aligning with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Emeka Beke, the former Chairman of the dissolved APC executive, clarified the situation, stating, “There is no alignment whatsoever.” He emphasized that the encounter with Wike was purely coincidental and unrelated to any political collaboration.
Beke explained the circumstances, stating, “The event in question was the 60th birthday celebration of a club member, where I am also affiliated.” He reiterated his loyalty to Rotimi Amaechi, asserting, “I still lead the only legally constituted APC in the state.”
Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the dissolved APC in the state, echoed Beke’s stance, urging the public to disregard rumors of collaboration with the Tony Okocha-led APC Caretaker Committee. Nwauju stated the validity of their tenure until October 2025, in accordance with the party’s constitutional provisions.
Nwauju criticized the decision to dissolve their tenure, citing Article 17 of the party’s constitution, which outlines the tenure of office for elected executives. He stated, “The law does not permit the party National Working Committee to dissolve an elected executive.”
Beke reiterated his commitment to the APC’s principles and his refusal to align with Wike or the PDP. He stated, “Wike is never an option for me in politics. We have different ideologies, and I prioritize upholding my integrity above all else.”
