Following Nigeria’s underwhelming performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Dr. Daniel Igali, President of the Wrestling Federation and an Olympic gold medallist, has expressed his deep frustration with the country’s approach to sports development. In a candid statement, Igali criticised Nigeria’s lack of serious investment in sports, stating that the nation is “not ready to succeed” and is more focused on rhetoric than action.
Igali highlighted the chronic underfunding of sports in Nigeria, pointing out that athletes often lack the resources and consistent training necessary to compete at the highest levels.
