Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has officially returned to work at the club’s training centre after recovering from a recent illness, the Premier League side confirmed on Thursday.
The 47-year-old was hospitalised earlier this month with pneumonia, forcing him to miss key fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. During his absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall took charge of first-team duties.
In a statement released by the club, Newcastle expressed their delight at Howe’s return: “Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club’s training centre. Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
The Magpies managed mixed results during Howe’s absence, securing convincing wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace but suffering a heavy defeat to Aston Villa. Newcastle, currently fifth in the Premier League, remain firmly in the race for Champions League qualification with several crucial matches ahead.
The club, who lifted the League Cup last month, are set to host struggling Ipswich Town this Saturday, aiming to bounce back and maintain their European ambitions.
