Edison Ehie Alleges N5 Billion Bribe Offer For Fubara’s Impeachment

Edison Ehie Alleges N5 Billion Bribe Offer For Fubara’s Impeachment.

The Chief of Staff to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, has alleged that he was offered a N5 billion bribe to impeach his principal while serving as a leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Ehie disclosed that he would soon reveal the identity of the individual behind the offer.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday night, Ehie also accused the suspended Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, of orchestrating the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex in 2023. He claimed that only the Speaker had access to the complex after 6:00 pm, asserting that since the attack occurred at night, Amaewhule and his colleagues should be held accountable.

“The governor is a man of peace. The governor decided to follow the path of conflict resolution. In October, I was approached with a N5 billion bribe against the governor, but I refused. The bribe was for impeachment, but I turned it down,” Ehie stated.

He further dismissed allegations made by the recently resigned Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding the Assembly bombing, accusing Nwaeke of being financially compromised to make false claims. Ehie expressed disappointment that after serving for nearly 35 years, Nwaeke had been pressured into making such statements, alleging that his claims were scripted to implicate both Governor Fubara and himself in the ongoing political crisis.

Ehie has instructed his legal team to file a lawsuit against the former Head of Service.

“It is very important to clarify that I was not involved and had no hand in the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” he said.

He further revealed that Nwaeke had resigned on 24 March 2025 and, by the following day, was appealing to Governor Fubara for financial support.

“The governor wouldn’t have given him money at that time because he had already tendered his resignation letter, stating that he could not work with a government not led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” Ehie concluded.

The allegations add another layer to the political turmoil in Rivers State, as tensions continue to rise over the governor’s suspension and the crisis within the state legislature.
