Alex Iwobi’s Brace Edge Fulham Against Brighton In Dramatic Encounter.

Fulham secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Brighton at a stormy Craven Cottage, with Alex Iwobi’s brace and a Matt O’Riley own goal proving decisive. The win, Fulham’s sixth of the season, propels them to sixth place in the Premier League, just one point behind Brighton.

The match was played under relentless rain and strong winds, but the adverse conditions did not excuse Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s costly error just three minutes into the game. Attempting a short pass to Carlos Baleba inside his own box, Verbruggen was intercepted by Iwobi, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net for his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Fulham had a chance to extend their lead soon after, with Iwobi threatening again, only for Igor Julio to intervene with a crucial defensive effort.

Brighton equalised 11 minutes into the second half with a stunning team effort. Jan Paul van Hecke delivered a lofted ball that Joao Pedro, a nominee for November’s Premier League Player of the Month, controlled deftly before setting up Baleba. The midfielder unleashed a precise strike from 20 yards, beating Bernd Leno and igniting celebrations, capped by Baleba’s acrobatic somersault.

However, Brighton’s hopes of a comeback were dashed by a combination of misfortune and Fulham’s determination.

Fulham regained the lead in the 79th minute when Andreas Pereira’s corner struck Brighton’s Matt O’Riley and deflected into his own net. The visitors pushed for another equaliser but were undone by Iwobi’s brilliance in the closing stages.

In the 87th minute, the Nigerian international powered home his second goal of the game, capping off an impressive individual performance and ensuring Fulham’s victory.

The result marked only Brighton’s third league defeat this season, leaving them in fifth place. Fulham’s victory, meanwhile, continues their impressive campaign, with the team now firmly in the hunt for European qualification.

Both sides will look to build on their performances as they aim to maintain their positions in the league’s upper echelons.
