Ajax’s tumultuous season reached a new low with a staggering 6-0 defeat to rivals Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
Feyenoord, the reigning champions, dominated the match with 30 shots compared to Ajax’s single attempt, securing three goals in each half and claiming a memorable victory in the Dutch ‘Klassieker’.
This loss marks the first time Ajax has suffered a competitive defeat by such a significant margin. The defeat leaves Ajax in sixth place, trailing 15 points behind the top three teams and effectively ending their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with only five games remaining.
Feyenoord’s wingers Igor Paixao and Yankuba Minteh each scored twice, with Minteh quickly following up his Brazilian teammate’s 34th-minute goal. Centre-back David Hancko further solidified Feyenoord’s lead before halftime.
The second half saw three more goals within 10 minutes from Minteh, Quinten Timber, and Paixao, leaving Ajax facing a humiliating 6-0 scoreline after 66 minutes, with key player Jordan Henderson absent.
Although Feyenoord had a seventh goal disallowed for offside, their six-goal victory marked a historic margin of victory against their rivals, surpassing a previous 9-4 win in 1964.
Ajax had a dismal start to the season, briefly sitting at the bottom of the table, and faced fan unrest following a 4-0 defeat to Feyenoord in September. Additionally, the club announced the suspension of chairman Alex Kroes on suspicion of insider.
