In response to the alarming deterioration of security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has called for an emergency security meeting to address the rising concerns and incidents of banditry, particularly the invasion of homes and abductions of residents in Abuja.

Reports indicate that bandits have been brazenly breaking into houses and abducting individuals from their residences, leading to heightened tensions among FCT residents.

The situation reached a tragic climax with the killing of several residents, including a 13-year-old secondary school student, due to the failure to meet ransom payment deadlines.

Minister Wike, addressing the ongoing meeting, reassured FCT residents of their safety and affirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support to security agencies.

The meeting, attended by heads of security agencies in the FCT, top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen, and traditional rulers, aims to strategize and intensify efforts to curb insecurity in the territory.

During the meeting, Wike emphasized the importance of area council chairmen fulfilling their responsibilities at the local level. He urged them to actively engage in addressing security challenges within their respective areas, emphasizing a collaborative approach to finding solutions.

Wike highlighted the need for security agencies to reevaluate and enhance their strategies to effectively tackle the security issues plaguing the Federal Capital Territory. He assured the public that the government is taking decisive steps to address the challenges and urged citizens not to panic.

In addressing concerns about area council chairmen’s responsiveness, Wike acknowledged the importance of their active involvement in resolving local issues. He expressed dissatisfaction with reports of chairmen frequently traveling out and emphasized the necessity for them to prioritize their responsibilities.

Minister Wike reassured the public that both the government and security agencies are actively working to resolve the security challenges in Abuja. He called for cooperation and understanding from all stakeholders to collectively tackle the current security crisis in the Federal Capital Territory.
