Federal Government Introduces Free Tuition In Technical Colleges

The Federal Government has announced a major initiative to make technical education more accessible to students across the country.

As part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, all Federal Technical Colleges will now offer tuition-free education. This move is aimed at promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training as a pathway to human capital development.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has directed that circulars reinforcing this policy be sent to all Federal Technical Colleges and parents. The Ministry has also established monitoring mechanisms to address any infractions swiftly. Parents are urged to report any illegal demands directly to the Ministry through the hotlines or email.

The government will cover not only tuition fees but also other approved charges. These include boarding fees, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectus, identity cards, stationery, clubs and societies, medical services, vocational training, utilities, security, website/e-result services, extra lessons, and insurance. This comprehensive support aims to alleviate the financial burden on students and their families.

Students are, however, expected to provide their personal items. These include Sunday/Jumat wears, bathroom slippers, blankets, bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, underwears, and one ream of A4 paper for registration, as well as cleaning materials. By investing in education today, the government is building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria.

“No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges,” Dr. Alausa affirmed. This policy is a significant step towards ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to pursue technical education, regardless of their financial background.

The Federal Government’s commitment to education is evident in this initiative. By making technical education more accessible, the government hopes to empower students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen careers. The outcome of this policy remains to be seen, but it is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector.
