The Federal Government is set to evacuate refugees from Cameroon, Chad, and Niger Republic to resettlement communities in Borno State.
The announcement was made by Aliyu Tijjani Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, during a visit to a satellite city for Boko Haram refugees in Marua, Mafa Local Government Area.
The Federal Government, which has developed sustainable satellite cities across the nation for displaced persons, emphasized the need for a tripartite meeting with the governments of Borno State and UNCHR to facilitate the evacuation process.
“We discussed the evacuation of our refugees from Cameroon, Niger, and Chad, and a tripartite meeting will be held to establish evacuation processes,” Ahmed explained.
Notably, similar satellite cities with sustainable livelihood sources will be created nationwide to support the resettlement of displaced persons.
During a visit to the Muna IDP camp in Jere Local Government Area, the Federal Commissioner donated food items and relief materials to five hundred households, including victims of recent fire outbreaks.
Additionally, skills acquisition centers established for IDPs and the satellite city in Marua were inspected, with the promise of commencing resettlement in the first quarter of 2024.
