The Federal Government has applauded celebrity chef Hilda Baci for her bold attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Jollof Rice.
The feat was staged at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, attracting over 20,000 registered participants. The custom-made pot, built over three months in South-West Nigeria, measures about six meters in width with a capacity of 22,619 liters.
Despite some drama during the event, where the massive pot caved in during the weighing process due to structural stress caused by a crane, thousands of servings of Jollof rice were successfully distributed to attendees. The incident prompted safety concerns, but Hilda Baci’s resilience and innovation were lauded by government officials at the venue.
The officials described Hilda Baci’s effort as a testament to Nigerian creativity and determination. Although Guinness World Records has yet to confirm the new record, the certification process is ongoing. The event was a significant milestone for Hilda Baci and a celebration of Nigerian culture and culinary expertise.
