Former Bayelsa Military Administrator, Navy Captain Omoniyi Olubolade, Dies At 70.
Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (rtd), former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, has tragically passed away at the age of 70. The retired naval officer died on Sunday, 11 May 2025, after collapsing while playing tennis in Apapa, Lagos.
Olubolade, who celebrated his 70th birthday on 30 November 2024, had visited a local facility to play tennis on Sunday evening. While on the court, he suddenly slumped. Despite efforts by those present, including medical personnel, to revive him, he was rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was pronounced dead.
Born in Ipoti-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Olubolade had a distinguished career serving Nigeria in various capacities. He was Bayelsa State’s Military Administrator from June 1997 to July 1998. Later, under former President Goodluck Jonathan, he held significant roles, including Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs.
His family has indicated that details of his burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
