Frida Maanum’s Collapse: Arsenal Midfielder’s Health Update
Arsenal has reported that Frida Maanum, who collapsed during the Continental Cup final, underwent tests that revealed “no obvious cardiac causes” for her collapse.
During injury time in the final against Chelsea at Molineux, Maanum collapsed off the ball. Arsenal emerged victorious with a 1-0 win after extra time.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been fitted with a heart monitoring device following the incident. She has also been excluded from Norway’s Euro 2025 qualifiers, commencing on Friday.
Arsenal’s statement on Thursday highlighted that Maanum underwent comprehensive testing, reviewed by leading cardiologists, with no clear cardiac issues identified. She will now follow a progressive return-to-training protocol while her heart function is monitored using the device.
After a week of monitoring, Maanum’s training progress will be evaluated before a decision is made on her return to play.
Following her collapse during the Continental Cup final, Maanum was treated on the pitch in Wolverhampton for seven minutes before being stretchered off. Fortunately, she did not require hospitalization and returned home with her Arsenal teammates.
Norway is scheduled to begin their European Championships qualification matches against Finland and the Netherlands, while Arsenal, currently third in the Women’s Super League, will face Bristol City on April 14th.
