Governor Fubara Calls For Peace As Tensions Rise With Wike.
Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has made a public appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, urging him to allow the current administration to govern without interference. Fubara and Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, have been embroiled in a power struggle over the political control of the state since Fubara assumed office.
Fubara further noted that, while elections are the appropriate time for political competition, the current focus should be on ensuring effective governance. “When the election comes, you can fight and do whatever. But now is time for governance. We need all the support,” he added.
Amid the tensions, Fubara conducted local government elections over the weekend without the presence of police officers, a development that raised concerns regarding the security situation in the state. The governor stressed the need for stability, highlighting the challenges facing Rivers State’s oil production and security, particularly in areas like Emohua and Degema.
The call for peace comes as Rivers State grapples with political and economic challenges, with Fubara emphasising that internal issues should not be allowed to hinder progress.
