Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state has spoken out against what he perceives as a concerted effort to undermine his administration’s developmental initiatives.
Addressing attendees at the Uhola Festival and Agricultural Show in Zuru Local Government Area, Governor Idris expressed determination to stay focused on achieving his targeted goals despite the challenges.
During his speech, Governor Idris highlighted a specific instance of sabotage regarding the rehabilitation of the KoKo-Dabai road. He revealed that despite submitting a request for the urgent repair of the deteriorating road, the submission was altered without his consent. This alteration redirected attention and resources to a less critical road, frustrating the governor’s efforts to address pressing infrastructure needs.
Idris emphasized the urgency of addressing infrastructure challenges, particularly in Zuru, where multiple roads are in dire need of repair. He pledged to pursue the revocation of contracts deemed incompetent and to prioritize the allocation of state resources towards infrastructure development, regardless of federal reimbursement.
The governor also addressed security concerns, revealing that his administration allocates substantial funds monthly to tackle insecurity. He stressed the importance of securing communities to enable farmers to return to their fields safely, thus promoting economic stability.
In addition to infrastructure and security, Governor Idris announced plans to resolve water supply issues in Zuru town and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting cultural events like the Uhola festival. He emphasized the importance of promoting culture for economic growth and social cohesion.
The Emir of Zuru, Maj.- Gen. Muhammad Sani-Sami (rtd), echoed appreciation for Governor Idris’s support for the festival and called for federal funding to further enhance its success. He also announced plans for the construction of a permanent Uhola village to foster tourism development in the region.
