Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented the staff and instrument of office to Oba Cornelius Taiwo Oladokun, the Alaawe of Aawe.

This event follows closely on the heels of a similar presentation to the Onifiditi of Fiditi, also in Afijio Local Government Area, just days earlier.

Representing Governor Makinde, Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal highlighted the unprecedented nature of these presentations within Afijio Local Government, noting that Oba Oladokun, who ascended the throne in 1991, is now formally receiving his staff of office.

The Governor expressed gratitude for the health and longevity of Oba Oladokun and his queens, allowing them to witness this historic occasion.

Governor Makinde emphasized the crucial need for improved security to sustain the progress and development his administration has achieved. He urged the Alaawe and other traditional rulers to collaborate with the government on intelligence gathering, emphasizing that security is not solely about armed measures but also involves proactive information sharing.

“Today’s event is a culmination of activities that began in 1991. The Alaawe mounted the throne in 1991, but the staff of office is being given this afternoon. We thank God Almighty for sparing our lives, particularly the lives of Oba Oladokun and his queens to witness this occasion,” said Deputy Governor Lawal.

He continued, “Within 48 hours, the Oyo State Government has performed wonders in Afijio Local Government. We presented a staff of office to the Onifiditi within this local government, and today, we are presenting a staff of office to Oba Oladokun here in Aawe.”

The Governor stressed the importance of security for enhancing progress and development in the area, urging traditional rulers to cooperate in intelligence gathering. “Let us work together in the aspect of intelligence gathering, as the issue of security is not all about carrying guns,” he stated.

He also called for cooperation among traditional rulers to ensure sustained development. “The second thing we need here is cooperation, especially amongst the traditional rulers. To experience development without cooperation would not be easy. So, I want our fathers, who are seated here, to cooperate with the traditional rulers so that we can progress in this local government and at the state level too,” he added.

The ceremonies underscore the Oyo State Government’s commitment to reinforcing traditional institutions and enhancing security through collaboration.
