House Of Representatives Advances Bill To Establish Federal College Of Entrepreneurship In Abia.

The House of Representatives has taken a major step towards the creation of the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, Abia State.

On Tuesday, lawmakers advanced a bill proposing the establishment of the institution, with the legislation successfully passing its second reading during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abass.

The proposed bill, titled *“A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, Abia State, to Provide Full-time Courses, Teaching, Instruction, and Training in Technology, Applied Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Management; and for Related Matters,”* aims to create a specialised institution focused on practical skill development.

Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, the bill’s sponsor, emphasised the urgency of the initiative, citing Nigeria’s growing youth unemployment crisis and overreliance on white-collar jobs. He called for a greater focus on entrepreneurial education and vocational training to equip young people with the skills needed for self-reliance and job creation.

According to Onwusibe, Ntigha’s strategic location—offering easy access to major commercial centres in the Southeast—makes it an ideal site for the institution. He highlighted that the college would specialise in training across key sectors such as agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and digital innovation, aligning with Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.

“This initiative will not only empower young people but also boost local industries, reduce poverty, and enhance national productivity,” he stated.

Drawing comparisons with similar institutions globally, Onwusibe stressed that Nigeria must embrace entrepreneurship-focused education to drive innovation and sustainable development.

Urging his colleagues to support the bill, he concluded: “Mr. Speaker and dear colleagues, I urge this honourable House to support the establishment of this college, which will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.”

If passed into law, the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition is expected to play a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s future workforce and fostering economic self-sufficiency.
