The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources, Downstream, and Midstream has urged citizens to remain calm assuring swift action against hoarders and saboteurs.
The committee, led by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere and Hon. Odianosen Henry Okojie, addressed the press in Abuja on Wednesday, highlighting the causes of the scarcity and steps being taken to alleviate the situation.
According to their findings, although there is an ample supply of petrol products available, logistical challenges in transporting the products from offshore to onshore have disrupted distribution to marketers. However, the committee assured that these challenges have been addressed, and normalcy is expected to return within a few days.
Hon. Ugochinyere emphasized the need for collaboration with regulatory bodies and key stakeholders in the distribution chain to prevent future disruptions. He also condemned the actions of middlemen who exploit supply disruptions for personal gain, calling for increased vigilance and support from security forces to curb such activities.
As fuel queues gradually disappear and products start arriving at petrol stations, the committee urged Nigerians to refrain from panic buying and assured them of sufficient fuel reserves to last over 30 days.
