Hunger: PDP Governors Advise President Tinubu To Step Down If Unable To Tackle Nigeria’s Woes

In a bold move, governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a stern advisory to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to resign if he cannot deliver sustainable solutions to the nation’s myriad challenges.

In a statement released over the weekend, the PDP Governors reminded the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government of its primary mandate to address Nigeria’s problems rather than exacerbate them or resort to blame-shifting and propaganda.

Highlighting the non-partisan nature of the hardships faced by Nigerians, the governors emphasized that hunger and suffering transcend tribal, religious, or party affiliations, asserting that “a hungry man is an angry man.”

While acknowledging the collective responsibility of all levels of government, the PDP Governors stressed the disproportionate role of the APC-led Federal Government in mobilizing the nation towards sustainable solutions. They emphasized that if the current administration proves incapable of fulfilling this role, it should gracefully relinquish power.

The governors underscored that, as the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria, the President holds ultimate responsibility for the nation’s well-being and must lead effectively to address its challenges.

However, they reiterated their commitment to collaborative efforts with the President to navigate the country through its difficulties, which they attribute partly to actions or inactions of the APC since 2015.

The statement also criticised attempts by officials of the APC-led Federal Government to disparage the PDP Governors’ constructive suggestions, cautioning against the use of propaganda to obscure or distort the issues at hand.

Moreover, the governors defended their record, asserting that PDP-governed states are leaders in implementing developmental policies and ensuring the welfare of their citizens, including timely payment of salaries, pensions, and the minimum wage.

Addressing the ongoing food crisis, the governors pointed out its exacerbation by federal issues such as insecurity and unfavourable exchange rates, while reaffirming their commitment to cooperative federalism.

Signed by Hon. CID Maduabum, Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the statement concluded with expressions of hope that President Tinubu’s efforts would yield positive results for Nigeria, albeit with a caveat that his best must suffice to lead the nation out of its current challenges in a timely manner.
