Overview of the Reorganisation

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a major redeployment of senior officers across the Nigeria Police Force in what is being described as a sweeping institutional reorganisation.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the exercise is aimed at:
  • Strengthening operational efficiency
  • Enhancing leadership capacity
  • Improving service delivery nationwide

“The postings are in line with the Force’s commitment to an effective command structure and the strategic deployment of personnel across Commands, Formations, and Departments,” the statement noted.

This move represents one of the first major structural reforms under the current police leadership, signaling a shift toward a more responsive and strategically aligned force.

Redeployment of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs)

A core component of the reorganisation is the reassignment of AIGs to key departments, formations, and zonal commands.

AIG Postings

  • AIG Ado Emmanuel → Research and Planning (Force Headquarters, Abuja)
  • AIG Joseph Eribo → Department of Armament
  • AIG Miller Dantawaye → Department of Operations
  • AIG Henry Ifeanyi Uche → Training and Development
  • AIG Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo → Police Affairs Branch
  • AIG Dahiru Mohammed → Zone 15 (Maiduguri)
  • AIG Dankombo F. Morris → Zone 4 (Makurdi)
  • AIG Bello Shehu → Zone 14 (Katsina)
  • AIG Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba → Legal Services
  • AIG Ahmed Musa → Community Policing
  • AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh → Zone 2 (Lagos)
  • AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom → FCID Annex (Lagos)
  • AIG Haruna Olufemi → Special Protection Unit (Force Headquarters)

Analysis

The distribution of AIGs reflects a dual strategy:
  • Strengthening headquarters policy and coordination units
  • Reinforcing zonal operational commands across the country

Particularly notable is the emphasis on Operations, Training, Armament, and Community Policing, which are critical to modern policing effectiveness.

Redeployment of Commissioners of Police (CPs)

The reorganisation extends extensively to the Commissioner level, covering state commands and specialised formations.

State Command Appointments

  • CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya → Jigawa State
  • CP Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola → Oyo State
  • CP Olubode Ojajuni → Ogun State
  • CP Michael Adegoroye Falade → Ekiti State
  • CP Yakubu Useni Dankaro → Adamawa State
  • CP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed → Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

  • CP Morkwap S. Dongshal → Taraba State
  • CP Ahmed Mohammed Bello → Zamfara State
  • CP Umar Ali Fagge → Katsina State
  • CP Hayatu Shaffa Hassan → Sokoto State

These postings place new leadership in strategically important and security-sensitive states, suggesting a targeted approach to regional policing challenges.

Beyond state commands, numerous CPs were assigned to specialised national units and administrative roles.

Key Strategic Assignments

  • CP Akan Ezima → Director, NPF-NCCC (Abuja)
  • CP Abbas Sule → Special Protection Unit

  • CP Mnwadiogbu Cletus → Deputy Commandant, Police Academy (POLAC)
  • CP Danjuma I. Yahaya → FCID Annex (Kaduna)

  • CP Mohammed Babakura → Administration, Department of Operations
  • CP Silas Bamidele Aremu → Safer Highway

  • CP Rebecca Uchenna Okereke → Director of Music, Force Headquarters

Strategic Implications of the Shake-Up

a. Operational Strengthening

Deployments to Operations, Armament, SWAT, and FCID units indicate a push to improve tactical readiness and crime response capabilities.

b. Focus on Community Policing

The assignment of senior officers to Community Policing and Crime Prevention roles reflects an increased emphasis on:
  • Intelligence-led policing
  • Public engagement
  • Crime prevention strategies
c. Leadership Renewal at State Level
The reshuffle introduces new leadership across multiple state commands, aimed at:
  • Addressing local security concerns
  • Improving accountability
  • Enhancing coordination with local stakeholders
d. Institutional Development

Postings to institutions such as POLAC and Police Colleges highlight a commitment to:

  • Training
  • Capacity building
  • Professional development

Official Directive and Expectations

The IGP charged all redeployed officers to:
  • Bring their experience to bear in their new roles
  • Uphold professionalism and discipline
  • Maintain high standards of service delivery

“The IGP charged the officers to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new roles and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and service in the discharge of their duties,” the statement emphasized.

Conclusion

The redeployment represents a comprehensive restructuring of the Nigeria Police Force’s leadership architecture under Olatunji Disu.

It signals:
  • A strategic repositioning of personnel
  • Renewed focus on efficiency and accountability
  • Alignment of leadership with evolving security demands

While the reorganisation lays a strong structural foundation, its success will ultimately depend on implementation, coordination, and measurable improvements in security outcomes across Nigeria.
