Speaking on Monday during a visit to Bishop Duke Akamisoko of the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja, Obi outlined his vision for a coalition focused on Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“I’m not desperate for any position,” Obi declared, as quoted by Channels TV. “The only coalition I am interested in is the one against hunger, poverty, and the bad state of healthcare and education in the country.”
His comments come amid speculation about a potential alliance with Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections. Reports had suggested Obi might serve as Atiku’s running mate, with Atiku allegedly agreeing to a single term and open to a written agreement.
Obi dismissed these claims, accusing those behind the reports of pushing “selfish political interests” that do not serve Nigeria’s needs. As opposition politicians hold strategic meetings to explore a united front against the APC, Obi’s focus remains on addressing systemic issues like hunger, poverty, and inadequate healthcare and education.
