INEC Uploads Over 90% Of Ondo Governorship Election Results

INEC Uploads Over 90% Of Ondo Governorship Election Results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported significant progress in uploading results from the recent Ondo State governorship election. As of 6:18 p.m., the commission confirmed that more than 90% of the polling unit results have been uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV). Specifically, 3,543 out of 3,933 polling units had their results uploaded.

INEC also revealed that 97% of polling units across the 203 wards in Ondo’s 18 local government areas had opened by 8:30 a.m. on election day, with the remaining units becoming operational between 8:31 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed satisfaction with the election’s smooth conduct. After casting his vote at Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward 4, in Ilaje Local Government Area around 8:50 a.m., he described the process as “encouraging”. He added, “It’s reassuring to see the exercise going smoothly here, and I hope this is reflective of the experience across the state.”

However, not all candidates shared this sentiment. Agboola Ajayi, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed dissatisfaction with the process in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, particularly in Kiribo. He criticised delays in the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), stating it took over 10 minutes to capture his biometric details. Additionally, he alleged instances of vote buying and other irregularities, calling the situation “shameful”.

INEC’s efforts to ensure transparency through the IReV platform reflect its commitment to improving the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process. The election has drawn mixed reactions from participants, but the prompt upload of results marks a significant step in fostering accountability and trust.
