James Maddison Reacts to Being Dropped by England for Euros.
James Maddison has expressed his deep disappointment after being left out of England’s final squad for Euro 2024. The Tottenham midfielder took to social media to share his thoughts and feelings about the decision made by manager Gareth Southgate.
“Devastated doesn’t quite cut it,” Maddison began. “Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make.”
Despite his form, Maddison believed he had done enough to secure a spot in the 26-man squad. “I still thought there would be a space for me as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany, but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that.”
Maddison remains optimistic and determined to return to the national team. “I’ll be back, I have no doubt,” he declared. He also extended his best wishes to his teammates, describing them as an “unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends.” Maddison concluded his message with a heartfelt sentiment: “I genuinely hope football comes home.”
