Paris Saint Germain manager Luis Enrique has criticised his players following their 2 to 1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, blaming costly mistakes for the loss.
He said the team handed Bayern easy chances which affected their performance.
Enrique admitted PSG were second best in the first half as they struggled to match Bayern’s intensity. He said, “In the first half they were better than us. They created more chances and we made some big gifts. When you make that kind of gifts to players like this it is normal to lose the match. We could even have conceded more goals.”
He also highlighted the injury challenges facing the squad, noting that key players such as Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz are still unavailable. According to him, the absence of several starters has made it difficult to maintain consistency.
Despite the setbacks, Enrique refused to blame injuries for the defeat, stressing that the team must show more responsibility. “I’m not looking for excuses. It’s our responsibility to do better. I’m calm and confident we will recover our players and our level,” he noted.
The Spanish coach stated that PSG improved in the second half but failed to take their chances to level the score. He said the team must work harder to avoid unnecessary errors in future matches.
The result leaves PSG in third place in their Champions League group, while Bayern remain top with 12 points after four games. PSG will need to win their remaining fixtures to boost their qualification hopes.
