The Lagos State Government has officially unveiled a decade-long Education Sector Plan aimed at transforming the quality of education and improving access for all learners across the state.

The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure, enhance teacher training, and promote inclusive education in every community.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while announcing the plan, said the state is committed to ensuring that education remains the foundation of social and economic growth. He noted that “education will continue to drive development, reduce inequality, and empower citizens to reach their full potential.”

According to the state government, the new plan outlines clear policies, goals, and strategies that will guide the education system over the next ten years. It focuses on the effective use of data for planning, improved monitoring systems, and equitable access to quality education across all levels.

The initiative also prioritizes the welfare and professional development of teachers. The government emphasized that modern teaching tools, digital learning platforms, and continuous capacity-building programmes will be introduced to equip educators with 21st-century skills.

Officials revealed that a detailed needs assessment has begun across public schools and vocational centres to collect accurate data that will help identify gaps and inform future reforms. The move is expected to ensure that every intervention in the sector is evidence-based and sustainable.

With the launch of this decade-long Education Sector Plan, Lagos aims to build a resilient, modern, and globally competitive education system that will prepare young people for the future while contributing to the state’s broader economic development goals.
