One Officer Killed As 12 Inmates Escape Kogi Custodial Centre.
A security breach at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, has resulted in the escape of 12 inmates, all of whom were awaiting trial. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, also led to the tragic death of a correctional officer.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed the jailbreak, with its National Spokesman, Abubakar Umar, stating that security agencies have launched an extensive manhunt to recapture the fleeing inmates.
“Two of the escapees have already been apprehended, and efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining ten,” Umar said.
He further assured the public that all necessary security measures have been activated to prevent further incidents and restore order at the facility.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could aid in recapturing the fugitives.
