President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, during his visit to Doha on Sunday, emphasized the value of Nigerian youth and their potential for bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Qatar. This statement came during the signing of seven crucial agreements aimed at bolstering ties between the two nations.

President Tinubu, alongside the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, oversaw the signing of agreements covering various sectors, including education, employment regulation, business collaboration, youth and sports cooperation, tourism, and combating illicit trade in narcotics.

The agreements were signed by Nigerian officials led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and counterparts from the Qatari government, including Minister of Education and Higher Education, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to welcome investors, citing ongoing reforms favoring innovation and multiculturalism.

President Tinubu praised the Qatari government for its rapid development, highlighting Nigeria’s potential as an investment destination with its vast market of over 200 million skilled individuals. He assured that Nigeria, despite facing short-term challenges, is implementing solutions and is ready for serious business.

Echoing President Tinubu’s sentiments, the Emir of Qatar emphasised his country’s openness to Nigerian investments, stressing the importance of bilateral follow-up efforts to ensure the success of the partnership. He pledged to send a team of Qatari officials to Nigeria for further engagement after Ramadan.

President Tinubu appointed the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, to lead the government team tasked with identifying and implementing investment opportunities in collaboration with Qatari authorities.

During the bilateral discussions, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, presented opportunities for local mineral processing and value-additive industry in Nigeria’s mineral sector.

The Nigerian delegation included ministers and senior advisers from various sectors, including finance, health, trade, and petroleum resources, underscoring the breadth of cooperation between the two nations.

The agreements mark a significant step towards deeper economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Qatar, promising mutual benefits and opportunities for both countries.
