In response to the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, she has been directed to appear at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, January 9.
The suspension came in the wake of an alleged N585 million scandal involving Edu. President Tinubu ordered a comprehensive investigation into her activities within the ministry, leading to the summons by the anti-graft agency.
A reliable source within the EFCC confirmed the development to newsmen, stating, “Betta Edu has been mandated to report to the commission (EFCC) tomorrow.” This move aligns with President Tinubu’s directive to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations surrounding the embattled minister.
In a telephone interview, a senior EFCC official further confirmed the directive, indicating that Edu is expected to comply with the summons on Tuesday.
In a related development, Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, is currently undergoing questioning by EFCC interrogators as of 6:40 pm on Monday. The investigation pertains to allegations that Farouq laundered N37.1 billion while serving as a minister in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
