Kaduna State And Gates Foundation Deepen Collaboration For Sustainable Development

The Kaduna State Government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have signed the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF), a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration, accountability, and sustainable development in the state.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Governor Uba Sani described the framework as a vital step toward Kaduna’s development vision, emphasizing that it represents a bold shift from promises to delivery. “The KaMAF represents a bold shift from promises to delivery. By ensuring accountability, transparency, and alignment with the priorities of our citizens, Kaduna is working toward building a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous future,” he said.

The framework focuses on five key areas, including strengthening healthcare systems, promoting sustainable agriculture, developing robust data systems, supporting transparent budgeting, and enhancing household resilience through financial inclusion and economic empowerment initiatives tailored specifically to women. Uche Amaonwu, Gates Foundation Country Director for Nigeria, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to Kaduna, highlighting its dedication to inclusive, accountable, and data-driven development.

“We are not just investing in systems; we are investing in people, communities, and institutions that support sustainable change,” Amaonwu said. The Foundation stands ready to support Kaduna in strengthening primary health care, expanding economic opportunities, and ensuring that every naira spent delivers real impact.

The KaMAF builds on the Kaduna State International Development Cooperation Framework (2017-2020) and introduces new mechanisms for strategic dialogue, measurable commitments, and citizen-centered monitoring. A Joint Steering Committee and regular Strategic Dialogues will track progress, address bottlenecks, and ensure sustainability.

The partnership underscores the commitment of both parties to advancing sustainable development in Kaduna State through targeted interventions and stronger cooperation. By aligning resources, reinforcing accountability, and centering citizens, Kaduna and the Gates Foundation aim to set a model for transformative state-donor partnerships in Nigeria and beyond.

As part of the agreement, the Kaduna State Government and the Gates Foundation will work together to drive real, measurable change that improves lives across the state. “By fostering transparency and measurable outcomes, Kaduna is building a more resilient and prosperous future. We are proud to partner with the Gates Foundation to drive real change that improves lives across our state,” Governor Sani said.
