The Labour Party (LP), has petitioned key government institutions, urging urgent intervention and disciplinary measures against NLC leaders In the aftermath of the recent invasion of its secretariats, by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
In a series of letters addressed to key government figures, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, LP has requested protection against further aggression and called for sanctions against NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and other union leaders allegedly involved in vandalizing LP property.
The conflict between LP and NLC escalated when NLC members picketed LP secretariats nationwide, demanding the resignation of LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
Despite security measures preventing access to LP’s national headquarters in Abuja, LP alleges that NLC members broke in, causing extensive damage and theft.
LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said that NLC’s actions constitute an abuse of office and violate constitutional and legal frameworks. Ifoh refuted claims that NLC owns LP, asserting that LP membership is open to all Nigerians irrespective of affiliation.
